Day to Day Itinerary:
Day 01: Arrival Paro (2250m) & transfer to Thimphu (2350m)
Arrive Paro flying past some of the world’s tallest mountains. Upon landing at Paro International Airport, cool and fresh air immediately greets you as you step down from the plane. After clearing customs and immigration formalities, meet your representatives and guide waiting outside the airport. Drive to Paro for lunch and also visit Paro Rinpung Dzong. Then drive to Thimphu (1 hr drive) and commence Thimphu sightseeing visiting Buddha’s point, Takin preserve. Then continue to Tashi Choe Dzong- the fortress of the glorious religion was initially constructed in 1641 and rebuilt by King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk in the 1960s, Folk Heritage Museum – a 300 year old traditional house converted into a museum, Centenary Farmers Market, the new authentic craft bazaar. Day 02: Thimphu to Punakha (1310m)
After breakfast, drive to Punakha from Thimphu which is about three hours drive. En-route, cross over Dochula pass(3050m) which provides a superb view of the eastern mountains on a clear day. Getting closer to Punakha Valley, take a short hike to Chimi Lhakhang ‘the fertility temple’ dedicated to Drukpa Kunley. Upon reaching Punakha, check-in hotel. Day 03: Punakha to Paro (2250m)
Early in the morning, visit Punakha Dzong located in between Pho Chhu (Male) and Mo Chhu (Female). Punakha dzong is arguably considered one of the most beautiful monasteries in Bhutan. Explore around this beautiful monastery then drive to Paro tracing the same route and crossing over Dochula, one more good chance to witness the eastern mountains. Day 04: Paro – Hike to Taktsang Monastery ‘Tiger’s Nest’ (3120m)
After breakfast in the morning, drive to the base of the monastery and hike upwards. After two hours of the hike will reach the cafeteria. From here, get an exclusive view of the monastery, rest and have a cup of tea/coffee. Continue hike upwards to the monastery, explore around, get some great pictures. It’s believed Guru Padmasambhava landed on the back of a tigress in the 8th century here and meditated. Then hike downwards to the road-head and drive to Paro. En-route visit one of the oldest temples in Bhutan ‘Kyichu Lhakhang. Overnight at Luxury Hotel (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner included)
Day 05: Paro – Depart
After breakfast, transfer to the airport to catch the onward flight. Bid farewell to the remote and legendary Dragon Kingdom disappearing again behind its guardian mountains. (Breakfast only included)
